When renovating this speckled clay brick terrace in downtown Newtown we made use of a very narrow existing side passage to squeeze in a new entry, clack cupboard and powder room. We kept a portion of the side passage as a central light well, with a full width living area at the rear. The first floor was extended with new bedroom and bathroom and an attic bedroom was also added with access via a floating timber tread stair.
The face brick was retained where possible, recycled for a BBQ area, and also used as the kitchen splash back, along with blackbutt and polished concrete floors. Because of the orientation we made use of a lot of skylights and a small portion of glazed roof adjacent to the light well to maximise natural light.
Durante Building did a terrific job as usual of making it all happen.
